Reflections on journey through life . Tatjana Semane’s exhibition Riding a Horse

Riding a Horse, a show by the Latvian artist Tatjana Semane, opens at Meno Niša on September 8. It is the artist’s second personal exhibition hosted by the Vilnius gallery, where Semane exhibited her collage works Catchy/Įsimintinas(-a) last year. This time, the artist is presenting her latest paintings.

Semane’s works are imbued with deep symbolism. The traits of everyday life and love are exactly the themes that Riding the Horse brings to the fore.

Very often, life feels like we are riding a wooden rocking horse, the artist says. “Though you want the horse to be real – hooves clacking, non-stop, moving only forward for the win – you find yourself back on the wooden rocking horse, planted to the ground. The ups and the downs, forward and back – going through the same motions each day. It can be difficult to move forward, to break the cycle, but with love, anything is possible,” Semane explains.

“This exhibition is a reflection of riding through a life which I think could be successful only if you are ventured by love,” the artist says.

Semane entered the Latvian art scene in 1998 and is currently an active member of the Latvian Artists Union. She has organized individual exhibitions and been a part of group shows in Latvia, Finland, China, the US, Poland. Semane’s works have been purchased by private collectors in Austria, Belgium, Belarus, China, Cyprus, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, the US, Sweden.

Tatjana Semane’s show Riding a Horse runs September 8 through September 25 at the gallery Meno Niša.

The opening hours are Tuesdays to Fridays 12 PM to 6 PM and Saturdays 12 PM to 4 PM.
