The bold brushstroke, gestured lines and pronounced relief in Jovita Aukštikalnytė’s landscape painting remind the signature style of Arūnas Vaitkūnas (1956 – 2005), her late teacher at Kaunas Faculty of Arts, however, the significant differences can be observed. The nature sketches of the young painter retain the authenticity and unique properties of the chosen motif. The bold fragmented composition and almost sculptural texture is typical to Jovita Aukštikalnytė’s canvases of parks and gardens. Her paintings differ greatly from the traditional plein artworks. She paints in the manner as if she sculpts her chosen motif. Her deep interest lies in the expression of forms of the tree silhouettes rather than the delivery of vibration of light.
