Paulina Domašauskaitė (b. 2000) is a young generation artist, currently studying for a Master’s degree in painting at Vilnius Academy of Arts. After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Painting in 2023, she actively participates in exhibitions such as Japanese Saws, Ruja, Žarija, and the international fair ArtVilnius.

Paulina’s work explores the painting plane, scratches, layers, and colors, revealing the dynamism of the act of painting. Her work combines clear silhouettes and chaotic brushstrokes, inviting us to reflect on painting as a process. The artist is inspired by Japanese cultural traditions, which she transforms by combining the aesthetics of the past with contemporary art forms. This gives her works a contrast and balance between strict forms and free conceptualization, inviting the viewer to reflect on themes of separation and integration.

In addition to painting, the artist creates interdisciplinary works in order to further explore themes and give them a multi-layered visual fulfillment.

Creative resume

Painting for me is a process where I can create stories, play the role of a samurai, and observe nature, combining different elements from real life to fantasy. The samurai emerges as both a timeless figure and a poignant symbol, intertwining past valor with present introspection. Through my brush, the samurai transcends historical depiction, evolving into a lyrical embodiment of honor, discipline, and inner conflict. I approach the samurai not as a static relic of bygone eras but as a dynamic entity navigating the realms of myth and modernity. Each stroke becomes a verse in a narrative that intertwines the ancient and the abstract, where the samurai’s essence flows between the rigidity of tradition and the boundlessness of abstraction.

In this creative alchemy, the samurai’s armor and stance dissolve into poetic forms, merging with the whispers of nature and the echoes of forgotten codes. Thus, the
canvas becomes a stage where the samurai, with his adherence to bushido, dances between the tangible and the ethereal, inviting viewers to lose themselves in a realm where the ancient warrior’s spirit resonates through the harmonies of color and form, urging them to reflect on their own journey amidst the interplay of past and present.
