GUSTAS JAGMINAS (b. 1979) is an abstractionist. His works are informed by nature, experience, close observation. He eschews fast commercial results, preferring instead close analysis, deconstructions and reconstructions of nature. Art critics note Jagminas’ sense for colour. In his works, he purifies forms in order to get to the core of painting itself. Both his figurative and abstract images suggest landscape as their principal or secondary object. Even though Jagminas’ canvases often have titles that may reek of decadence and romanticism, they are also full of irony and maintain their relevance and topicality.
